What people say about reading the Bible.
“I want to understand the Bible but don’t know where to start!”
“I started reading but got confused with all the different books in the Bible. It seems like disjointed stories.”
“I tried my best but it can be hard to understand.”
People want to be able to read and understand the Bible.
On Sunday January 8 we begin “The Story” which is a new series using a resource published by Zondervan. The point of “The Story” is not to know facts about the Bible but to know the God who reveals himself through the Bible. Throughout history one of the primary spiritual disciplines for transformation has been reading, studying, memorizing and meditating on God’s Word.
In “The Story” we have the chronological unfolding of God’s plan of redemption from Genesis to Revelation. The scriptures are from the New International Version translation without chapter and verse markings. You can read it like a novel or story the way the original audience would have heard it.
The plan is to read a chapter a week which is about 12 pages. On Sundays the teaching will be from that part of the Bible which you have already read during the week. There are small group resources available and we are starting a new group in January.
Another valuable resource is “The Story for Teens” with graphics and applications. On Sundays in NEXGEN we will be using “The Story” resources for kids. You can buy in at a number of levels: 1) Listen and participate on a Sunday morning, 2) Read a chapter during the week, 3) Be part of a small group 4) Do further study on your own.
The intent is to know God through his Word.
This is a great opportunity for people who have tried church before but gave up. It will give the big picture of God’s plan of redemption and open the door for better understanding.
Our prayer is this will be a spring board for engagement with God’s word so people are transformed by knowing God.
“The Story” and “The Story Teen Edition” are available through Heritage Green.
Below is a testimonial from another church that has been using “The Story”. It is helping people in churches everywhere experience Scripture like never before.
